Reused

Ah, my favourite bit of Launceston: Inveresk (can you tell?). It's hard for me to imagine what this place was like, back when it was still a functioning industrial site - particularly when the trees are looking so green and leafy. It's a subject that's been done to death recently in art, but something really appeals to me about nature reclaiming a derelict industrial site.

Of course, in this case, it's nothing to do with nature doing it's thing - as is probably quite obvious, this is a nicely landscaped and deliberately planned reclamation where the grass and rusty rails are both integral. Full points to the people who made it happen.

(The coffee is also excellent from the local cafe, by the way...)

indoor mural

on the wall of my favourite local cafe, this lady looks awfully familiar. she's always there, patiently watching me in an almost motherly way, as i sip on my flat white or chow down on some good breakfast nosh.

chairs

I really, REALLY dig those chairs. I have no idea where this cafe found them, but they have a whole buttload of them. Think they'll share if I ask nicely?

teapot

more from my Saturday morning breakfast. actually, this teapot was left behind by the previous occupants on the table, and was soon after removed by the helpful staff. as much as i love a cup of tea, i much prefer a flat white of a Saturday morning, to wash down a blueberry bagel or scrambled eggs with bacon.

leftovers

actually, it looks less like the remains of breakfast, and more like the leftovers from a casual Saturday morning coffee/milkshake.

A coffee shop with a sign...

One thing I do like about going out for a coffee, is when it's a warm day, and you can sit in the shade with said coffee, watching the world go by, snapping away at the interesting stuff. Of which this sign is a good example.

The eagle-eyed might even spot the generally shy author/photographer in shot...

NO HIPPIES

It's not discrimination, it's just that by and large, Tasmanians love their humour with a spoonful of irony. Seen in the window of an excellent vegetarian/hippy cafe on Charles Street.

The blueberry bagels with jam & cream cheese are particularly nom-worthy.

cafe/bar

Good drinks, nice atmosphere, and most importantly during the Tasmanian summer (no snickering up the back there, mainlanders): air conditioning.
