Reused
Ah, my favourite bit of Launceston: Inveresk (can you tell?). It's hard for me to imagine what this place was like, back when it was still a functioning industrial site - particularly when the trees are looking so green and leafy. It's a subject that's been done to death recently in art, but something really appeals to me about nature reclaiming a derelict industrial site.
Of course, in this case, it's nothing to do with nature doing it's thing - as is probably quite obvious, this is a nicely landscaped and deliberately planned reclamation where the grass and rusty rails are both integral. Full points to the people who made it happen.
(The coffee is also excellent from the local cafe, by the way...)

A coffee shop with a sign...
One thing I do like about going out for a coffee, is when it's a warm day, and you can sit in the shade with said coffee, watching the world go by, snapping away at the interesting stuff. Of which this sign is a good example.
The eagle-eyed might even spot the generally shy author/photographer in shot...

Benches, cubes and trees
More of the little court between Patterson & Brisbane Streets - if anyone knows it's name, please feel free to comment!

I prefer mine ground...
I believe that's the chemical doo-hickey for caffeine. These cube-seats are located in a little court between Brisbane and Patterson streets, popular with caffeine-addicts and the lunching-worker alike.

coffee
Invigorating. There was a time about 10 years ago where Launceston's coffee shops almost hit critical mass - one more, and the whole economy of the city would have stopped producing anything else.
Nowadays, it's a healthy mix of chain stores, independent cafes, and pubs that also serve coffee. They all have their place and fans.

wine wine wine wine
That's a whole lot of wine right there. Taken at Pierre's, which is a local institution - Launceston's oldest cafe (55 years, still going strong), damn fine coffee in a nice atmosphere with excellent service. Often I find myself going to the chain stores when I'm not too fussy about my coffee, but I much prefer the coffee in the "real" (for want of a better word) cafes. More often than not, I make a bee-line for Pierre's.
Oh, and wine is also good. More on the Tamar Valley wine region later...
